I really do despise this kind of stuff.
Why do we ((sleep)) in [[school]], But stay ((awake)) through a [[3 hour movie]]?
honestly? I’ve stayed awake in many a class, and have slept through many a movie. But typically, one is a situation imposed, the other chosen, that’s answer enough.
Why is it so ((hard)) to talk about [[God]], but so ((easy)) to talk about [[sex]]?
I wish people found it hard to talk about ‘god’. Really, I do, cause then I wouldn’t be accosted every half block on the open air mall by someone wanting to sell me their brand of ‘god’, and not one of them agrees with the others. I wish it was easy to talk about sex, because then things like STIs and unplanned pregnancies and abortion wouldn’t exist, people would communicate their concerns and desires about sex and be able to plan around those concerns and desires instead of just letting things happen.
Why are we so ((bored)) when we look at a [[Christian magazine]], but find it ((easy)) to read [[Playboy]]?
Because Playboy pays excellent money to versatile writers to create interesting well researched articles while most christian magazines are run by volunteers paid next to nothing, who wouldn’t know a dictionary if it hit them in the head. Also Playboy deals with relevant contemporary issues while christian magazines continue to do nothing but pound outmoded fear based ethical systems upon their readers.
Why is it so easy to ((ignore)) a [[Godly]] myspace bulletin, Yet we ((repost)) the [[nasty]] ones?
Because the nasty ones appeal to humans base nature, the desire to procreate and enjoy the process, while the ‘godly’ ones are anecdotal glurges which grate against our base nature. Also, see the playboy answer.
Why are ((churches)) getting [[smaller]], But ((bars and clubs)) are [[expanding]]?
Supply and Demand? And I would debate the statement of churches getting smaller, big box style churches are springing up all over the place in corporate christianity while the small neighborhood churches are on a decline, but, just like the family owned store going out of business because of the big chain stores, people still fill their church going needs, now, however, they can also get a starbucks and buy all of their christian paraphernalia at one stop at the place they worship. Bars and clubs aren’t really expanding either, during this current recession, the anti-smoking bans, and other such factors, bars and clubs have been closing at record rates.
Why is it so easy to purchase {beer} and {drugs}? But so hard to donate 25 cents for a {Charity}?
Beer tastes good, and when I put out a dollar for beer, I know that a whole dollar is in that beer. However, most typically, when I donate 25 cents to a charity, 15-20 cents goes into administration fees, salaries, and other such sundry costs leaving less than half to give to the cause. Personally, if you want to give to a charity, volunteer your time, not your money, throwing money at a problem never fixes it, and usually only perpetuates the problems. Drugs I would know nothing about.
Why is it so easy to worship a {Celebrity}? But very difficult to engage with {God}?
I’m really not qualified to answer this one. I don’t worship celebrities. I find most celebrities to be detestable pieces of shit not worth my consideration or time outside of enjoying the products of their labors. As for engaging with god? Well, when was the last time you saw a picture of god, or was bombarded with constant sound bites? Or saw god in a movie? Really? It’s difficult to engage with something that all to often seems absent from the world it supposedly created and is so heavily debated as to the actual nature of which, no two people can actually agree upon what it is.
Dont be ignorant and repost this on a guilt trip, repost it if you want change and are willing to do something to change the way you live, and take a stand for whats right.
But… Isn’t guilt what god is all about? I have found in my travels people who say how I can be, as an atheist, a moral and ethical person. They go on to tell me if it WASN’T for GOD in their life, they’d be robbing stealing doing drugs etc etc…. Hmmm… and yet, when polled, the people in prison are more than representative of their numbers in general society while atheists are less than represented…
I tell myself I do good because it’s just The Right Thing To Do… not for fear of some damnation punishment in a fire and brimstone torturous environment, or some blissful reward in some cloudscape utopia. No, I do good because I CAN and WANT to, not because some imaginary sky daddy is going to punish or reward me for my actions.
